Scottish deprivation map illustrates the importance of Juniors

The Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD) is an interactive web-based map that can ranks the scale of deprivation in cities, towns, and communities throughout Scotland.

Areas of least deprivation are highlighted in navy blue, while the areas of most deprivation are dark red. The map makes for sobering reading, with the enormous red sections throughout the country giving an indication of the scale of social issues in Scotland.

Looking at Hamilton on the SIMD map, you will be quick to realise that Hamilton is home to some of the most deprived areas in the country.

This is why charities like Juniors Play Café are so important. Juniors offers support to those in the community who need it the most, and fights tirelessly to ensure that children are not suffering as a result of poverty and social deprivation.

Juniors offers free services for struggling families, as well as advice and guidance about how to best access support networks. The Play Café is a safe space where families can meet and connect and where children can play to help them build confidence, manage emotions, and maintain positive relationships with others.

However, despite the work Juniors in the local community, the Scottish Government rejected the organisation’s recent funding application. This has left Juniors in real financial difficulty, so you need to help us join the fight to save Juniors!
