Lanarkshire’s Centre for Early Childhood Support

Measuring the Difference We Make

At Juniors, we believe children deserve more than good intentions—they deserve support that is proven to make a difference.

Everything we do is designed to improve outcomes for children in the first five years of life by strengthening parenting, reducing barriers created by poverty and helping families build confidence, resilience and secure relationships.

We don’t simply count how many families attend. We measure whether children’s development improves, whether parents become more confident and whether families become more connected and resilient.

This page brings together the evidence that underpins our work.

Our Theory of Change

Children thrive when parents feel confident, supported and connected.

By combining evidence-informed early years activities with practical family support, one-to-one family support work, peer support and community connections, we help parents provide the safe, responsive and nurturing relationships that children need during their earliest years.

This leads to:

• Improved communication and language

• Better social and emotional development

• Increased parental confidence

• Reduced isolation

• Greater school readiness

• Stronger family resilience

Our Family Strength Framework

Our Family Strength Framework explains how our activities lead to improved outcomes for children and families and forms the basis of all our evaluation.

Measuring Children’s Development

We use nationally recognised outcome measures including:

Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ-3)

The 3 measures children’s development across:

• Communication

• Gross Motor

• Fine Motor

• Problem Solving

• Personal-Social Development

These assessments allow us to monitor developmental progress and identify where additional support is needed.

Parent Wellbeing

We measure parental wellbeing through monitoring and impact

This helps us understand changes in:

• Confidence

• Emotional wellbeing

• Resilience

• Connectedness

• Positive parenting capacity

What Families Tell Us

Our annual parent surveys consistently show positive outcomes.

Latest findings include:

• 77% sustained or increased parental confidence.

• 75% reported stronger family relationships.

• Parents described feeling less isolated, more hopeful and better equipped to support their child’s development.

Why This Matters

The first five years of life shape everything that follows.

Our commitment is not only to support families today, but to continually learn, improve and demonstrate the difference that evidence-informed parenting support can make for children across Lanarkshire.
