Lanarkshire’s Centre for Early Childhood Support

Built for dads — on purpose

Most early years services are built around mothers. We’re deliberately not. Our Dad Group is a space for fathers and father figures to spend real time with their young children, meet other dads, and get support that’s actually aimed at them.

Why it matters:
The evidence is clear that involved fathers make a measurable difference to a child’s development, confidence and outcomes — yet dads are routinely left on the edge of early years provision. Juniors is closing that gap in Lanarkshire.

What happens:

  • A typical session looks like this: dads and their little ones arrive to a warm welcome and a brew — no pressure, no lecture. The time is built around play — messy play, building, music, the active, hands-on stuff dads and children enjoy together. While the kids play, dads get to talk to other dads who get it: the good bits and the hard bits of being a father.
We weave in the practical stuff gently — a bit on play, development, feeding or sleep when it’s useful, never as a class. And every dad who comes has the same access to everything else at Juniors: the Community Larder, family support, and a community that’s got his back.
You don’t need to book. You don’t need to be an expert. You just need to turn up.
