Lanarkshire’s Centre for Early Childhood Support

INTRODUCTION

Supporting Children During the Early Years

The early years of a child’s life shape their future development, confidence and wellbeing.

Through our Early Years Family Hub and family support programmes, Juniors helps ensure children have access to safe play opportunities, supportive environments and positive early experiences.

Every week families across Lanarkshire attend Juniors to access play sessions, practical support and opportunities to connect with others.

Behind every programme and activity is a simple goal:

to give children the best possible start in life.

CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Supporting Children’s Development

Through play-based learning and early development activities, Juniors helps children build important skills during the early years.

Children who attend Juniors have opportunities to develop:

  • social interaction
    • communication skills
    • confidence
    • independence
    • readiness for nursery and school

These early experiences help children build strong foundations for learning and wellbeing.

SUPPORTING PARENTS

Helping Parents Feel Supported

Parent wellbeing plays an important role in a child’s development.

At Juniors, parents can connect with others, build friendships and access a supportive environment during the early years of parenting.

Many parents tell us that Juniors helped them feel less isolated and more confident in caring for their children.

By supporting parents, we help strengthen the entire family.

REAL STORIES

Stories from Families

Behind every programme at Juniors are families whose lives have been positively impacted.

“Before coming to Juniors I felt very isolated after having my baby. The sessions helped me meet other parents and gave my child a safe place to play and learn. Juniors has made such a difference to our lives.”

Stories like these highlight the importance of community support during the early years.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our Vision for the Future

Juniors continues to grow in order to support more families across Lanarkshire.

Our vision is to ensure that every child has access to opportunities that help them grow, learn and thrive during the early years.

With the support of our community, partners and funders, we will continue expanding our work so more families can benefit from the support Juniors provides.

Support Our Work

The impact Juniors creates is only possible through the support of our community.

By donating, volunteering or partnering with us, you can help ensure that more children and families receive the support they need.

Christmas 2025

Christmas 2025 saw Juniors support children and families when it mattered most.
We provided 360 children aged 0–16 with brand new winter clothing from head to toe, ensuring they stayed warm, confident and cared for. Alongside this, 300 families received a full Christmas dinner, helping to bring comfort, dignity and a sense of normality during the festive period.

Mothers Day

The Juniors 100 Mums Mother’s Day campaign was created to remind women facing hardship that they are seen, valued and not alone.
Through carefully prepared gifts, we were able to reach 100 mums in need, offering not just items, but a moment of care, dignity and recognition. This initiative turned kindness into impact — showing that small acts of compassion can mean everything.

Easter 2026

The Juniors 1000 Easter Eggs campaign was created to bring joy to children who might otherwise go without.
By providing 1000 Easter eggs to children living in poverty, we helped ensure that no child felt left out during a time that should be filled with happiness. This initiative turned small moments into lasting memories — proving that even the simplest gestures can make a big difference.

Surplus Clothing & House Hold Goods

Juniors’ surplus clothing and household goods support helps families access the essentials they need with dignity.
By redistributing donated items to those facing hardship, we ensure that clothing, furniture and everyday necessities reach the families who need them most. This initiative turns surplus into support — reducing waste while making a real difference in people’s lives.

Juniors Charity – Impact Summary

At Juniors, we exist to ensure that no child or family feels alone, unsupported or left behind. Every day, families walk through our doors facing challenges—but they leave with more than support. They leave with hope, connection and a community that stands beside them.

In 2023–24, demand for our services grew significantly, reflecting the increasing pressures families are facing. Despite a challenging financial climate, our team continued to show up, innovate and deliver—ensuring support never stopped when it was needed most.

This year alone, we welcomed over 20,000 visits from families—a 35% increase on the previous year. Behind every number is a real family, a real story, and a real moment where support made a difference.

Our centre delivered over 850 play sessions, creating safe, nurturing spaces where children can simply be children. For families navigating additional support needs, we provided 96 ASN sessions—giving parents a place of understanding, acceptance and respite.

We supported early years development through baby massage, tummy time and breastfeeding sessions, helping parents build confidence and stronger bonds with their babies. At the same time, we tackled isolation through walk-and-talk groups, supper clubs and community activities that brought people together.

But our impact goes far beyond sessions.

Through our community larder and crisis support, we ensured families had access to food, clothing and essentials when they needed it most. At Christmas alone, hundreds of families received gifts, clothing and meals—ensuring no child woke up without something to open.

We also supported parents to rebuild confidence and independence through employability programmes like Ready to Work, helping them take steps towards brighter futures.

Juniors is more than a service. It is a lifeline.

We are building a model that not only supports families today but creates long-term change. Through initiatives like our award-winning coffee and cookie social enterprise, we are turning everyday purchases into real impact—helping to fund meals, services and opportunities for families across Scotland.

As we look ahead, our ambition is clear: to reach more families, remove more barriers, and create a future where every child has the opportunity to thrive.

Because at Juniors, we don’t just support families.

We stand with them—every step of the way.
